Kayak Portugal tours invites you to explore the oldest demarcated wine region (since 1756) of the world by kayak .
In the 20th century, with the construction of 5 dams in Portuguese territory, it allowed safe navigation between Porto and Barca d`Alba.
The tour takes place in a region where man has shaped the mountains with his own hands, creating mountains with vineyards where the best wines in the world are produced. The landscape is filled with vineyards and olive trees.
You will experience the Portuguese culture, gastronomy and visit historical towns and villages.
UNESCO also gave particular emphasis to the Côa Valley, considered World Heritage in 1998, as “the most important site with open-air Palaeolithic rock art”. It is called an open-air gallery, which helps well to understand the charm of another Douro Region. Here we can witness the primitive art of our ancestors and we can also appreciate another set of beautiful landscapes that dress the River Côa, a tributary of the Douro river.
We invite you to explore with us this magical valley where colours merge in the shadows of the hills. Come and paddle with us on Kayak to visit the Douro cliffs, the rock art, the Port wine estates and much more.
The tour is fully guided by very experienced guides registered with the Portuguese Tourist Board.

1º day – “Welcome day”
It is the arrival day, we advised who arrives at Porto with enough time to rest from travelling by plane or car.
We will have time to visit the emblematic places of the city of Porto.
At night you will have dinner with a fantastic view which is the ribeira do Porto World heritage, classified by UNESCO.

- – Botânico Garden
2º day – “The Beautiful Douro river train line”
In the morning we take the train from the beautiful São Bento train station towards Pocinho. The journey is unique, through the Douro valley, classified as World Heritage by UNESCO.
We will have lunch in a mountain village and in the evening we will stay in a typical mountain lodge.
3º day – “The tour begins, on Douro river!”
We will start our kayak tour on Douro valley from Barca d ´Alva to Foz Côa train station – 17km/ 10,5 miles.
We will spend the night in a typical mountain village.

4º day – “From Foz do Sabor river to Ferradosa”
We will paddle from “Foz do Sabor” to “Cais da Preguiça” 13km/ 8 miles.
Today we will see cliffs in the douro valley as well as the approach of the most wine producing area of the Douro valley
We will stay in a typical mountain village.
Interesting places to visit:

– Port wine farm.
5º day – “The mountains where port wine is produced”
We will paddle from Cais da Preguiça to Ferradosa – 11k / 6miles.
After lunch we’ll go to our accommodation, a famous farm where the famous Port wine is produced, with a unique view over the Douro valley.

– Tua train station
6º day – “Through the valley where port wine is produced”
We will paddle from Tua to Pinhão – 12k / 7,5 miles
After lunch we’ll go to our accommodation, a famous farm where the famous Port wine is produced, with a unique view over the Douro valley.

– Provesende village
– Pinhão village
7º day – “On the way to Caldas de Aregos – Thermal waters”
We will paddle from “Rede” to “Caldas de Aregos” – 15km / 9 miles.
The landscape slowly changes. The green of the vineyards is now forest and small agricultural fields.
At the end, a spa moment is given.

8º day – “Between rivers – Douro & Tâmega”
We will paddle from Caldas de Aregos to Entre os Rios – 12k / 7,5 miles.
The vineyards are again replaced by the green of the forest, agricultural fields and small villages along the valley. We will stay in a typical village in Douro.

9º day – “Final destination – Porto”
Today is the last day of our expedition (15k / 9 miles), to Porto. The landscapes continue to fill us with happiness. In the evening, a memorable dinner is waiting for us.
10º day – “Free day in Porto”
Everyone is ready to leave the hotel and return home with unforgettable memories of a kayaking expedition in the douro valley.
